ABOUT
The API Flying Bookshelf
The API Flying Bookshelf is a traveling bookshelf celebrating and promoting the works of Asian & Pacific Islander writers, artists, & scholars. The bookshelf is traveling and will live in different cafes throughout Seattle starting July 1st, 2014.
Our first home will be in The Eastern Cafe 510 Maynard Ave S. We will live here July to August 2014.
Our Story
It all began in March 2014 when two good friends were wandering Maynard Avenue in the land of the Chinatown-International District. One of them had just returned from The Bay and was inspired by the work of the Asian American Curriculum Project in San Mateo. Realizing the importance of the space that centers and promotes the writings and art of Asian & Pacific Islander writers, artists, and scholars, the API Flying Bookshelf was born! Before they knew it, the bookshelf had swept the two friends off their feet and transported them to a land full of API literature and art!
This project would not have been possible without the legacy and activism of the Asian American Curriculum Project, along with the many API writers, artists, and scholars that continue to empower and inspire our communities.
